Bache Hall

Bache Hall is located on the edge of the Countess of Chester Health Park. It was acquired by the health service in 1911 and was used as a Nurses Home and then Domestics Residential Home.  The Hall itself has a history that goes back many centuries. A Hall existed there at the time of the English Civil War (1640s) but was burnt down in 1643 by the Royalists who occupied Chester to stop the Parliamentary forces using it. After peace came, the present bow. fronted brick mansion was erected. A Mr. Broadbent bought the property in 1816 and made a pleasant ornamental garden there with a small lake on the hill-top. The estate and  Bache Hall farm was built in 1830/1864.

During the Second World War it was used by the Military Police. After the Second World War it was used as a Domestic Staff Home. From the mid 1950s to 1989 it was used as a Mental Illness Re-habilitation Unit. There have been various building and electrical upgradings, some known dates being 1946, 1955, 1972. While the above mentioned uses of the building are correct the dates are approximate due to lack of records and time to carry out further research.

In around 1991 Chester Health Authority sold Bache Hall  to Lillian Maund Hair & Beauty centre (Beauty Consultants). It was sold to Chester Colleage in 2002 to become the new School of Midwifery as a replacement of the old Staff Home School. The Head of the School in 2003 is Sandra West. It opened during 2003.
